Set list:

I’m A Man, Hungry Man, Can’t find My Way Home, Dirty City, Pearly Queen, Fly, At Times We Do Forget
Light Up…, Low Spark / Empty Pages, Higher Love, Dear Mr. Fantasy, Gimme Some Lovin’.

No surprises in the set–list at this tight performance in Leamington, which clocked in at just under the 2 hour mark. The band had just one days rehearsals following Steve’s jaunt with Eric in the USA, but performed like a well oiled machine .

A couple of standouts were “Dirty City” which had a changed arrangement, taken at a much slower pace with every word of the lyrics coming through loud and clear, and Steve’s solo was a real treat.. The venue is a wonderful building, the interior has been revamped at great expense in the art –deco style (see photos). Steve jokingly said when he introduced “Can’t Find My Way Home” that he could find his way home as the venue was not too far from his home. He too commented on the splendour of the venue.

“Light Up” gave everyone a chance to solo albeit I felt the percussion break was a wee bit too long for my ears. That slight criticism apart I enjoyed the show, especially Low Spark segued into “Empty Pages”.

Looking forward to Cropredy, where I will be interviewing Paul Booth, whose new solo album should be out in the next week or so. Talking of Cropredy various members of Fairport including Simon Pegg were in the audience for this fully sold out show.
