A cold damp evening beckoned for the Green Ray monthly outing at the Plough Inn, Walthamstow. The evening kicked off with support act “The Acoustic Spacemen”. A fine set by Dave and Mick (despite sore throat) giving the acoustic treatment to some of the songs from their forthcoming CD “Plainsongs”. Having listened to an advanced copy we strongly recommend that you part with your hard earned cash and get a copy. We will be stocking copies at Senza Tempo when available.
On to The Green Ray. The set kicked off with an excellent Jazz/Psych jam, the title of which escapes me. Mr. Treece going into overdrive and being on fine form as were the rest of the band. Highlights of the set for me being “Swains Green” (All together now! Sorry Ken), “Fragile World”, “Running Down”, “Alley Cat” (Help Yourself songs from the past and present), “Fresh Garbage”, “Night train to....”....and a stunning version of “Black Eye Bean” with Simon H attacking the mike stand amid strange noises. Phew! What a great set closer. A special hello to Dave Barstow visiting from Finland and all the other Green Rayers who made the effort. And to those who didn’t make it, why not? The Green Ray will be back at the Plough Inn on 23rd April, so come along and see a great band. you don't know what you are missing.
